It was named after the Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova, who toured Australia and New Zealand in 1926 to great acclaim. Pawmi is tied with Cleffa and Greavard for having the shortest Japanese name of all Pokémon, being spelled with only two kana.Pawmi has the lowest base Special Defense stat of all Electric-type Pokémon.Pawmi and Pawmo are the first electric rodents since Pichu to be able to evolve.Pawmi and Pawmo are the only Pokémon with this category to not be introduced in Generation I, and the only ones whose evolutionary line has no Alolan Forms.They are all known as the Mouse Pokémon, though Rattata and Raticate were originally called the Rat Pokémon prior to Generation III. Pawmi has yellow underdeveloped electric sacs in its cheeks, as well as yellow pad-like organs on its forepaws that can discharge electricity. Pawmi can stand on its hind legs, but barely. Its forelimbs are considerably large, and it has a tuft of fur on top of its head. Pawmi is a small, quadrupedal, rodent-like Pokémon that has a body that is almost entirely orange, with cream colorations on its lower forelimbs, snout, and tail, and green on the insides of its ears.
